| Sent: Wednesday, April 15, 2009, Subject: Beni Just a little update on Dan and Beni - They are so good together !! What a blessing. Dan has been doing lots of things with Beni . He has been sacking him out with all kinds of things and can now put a blanket on him and a little kids western saddle, cinch the girth just enough to keep the saddle on and Beni will walk all day and give it no heed. We have been ponying him from the Gator and have tried it from horseback but need lots more practice with that as Chanel isn't too calm at having the new herd boss at her butt !!( Yes, that's right, Beni is the new herd boss - who would have thought it !!) Beni is learning not to harass her and go along quietly. Our goal is to get him to pony off Chanel with a saddle on. He is standing very quiet for grooming and doing his feet and the goal is to get him to ground tie. He's learning to love his horse treats but hasn't had much chance with carrots or apples yet. We started sacking him out with plastic bags and cans today and he is very patient with new things, wary but sensible. Our farrier said he had more brains and maturity than Cory. | Sent: Tuesday, March 10, 2009, Subject: Re: Beni & Dan Hi Nancy, That Beni is a hoot - I think he is going to end up herd boss. He is driving Chanel (the palomino all over the place, He is trying to push Cory around and with CC away he is blossoming with leadership.) They are so funny to watch. Dan is over every day and just lovin it. We had some church kids over last week and everyone wanted to brush Beni - he was so good. Now that Dan feels comfortable with leading him they are taking "trail walks" through the woods and going over down trees and through brush. He has also been getting him used to the trailer - only the front feet so far (on Beni's time) but its good. We're working on Parelli's yoyo game with him (going back and forth on a lead rope from a stand still) and he is doing it so well. Our next work will be getting him to back up into his stall and over things on the ground. I will be back the end of next week and can hardly wait to see how things have progressed. Judy |
